Why Baker at Bethel
In 2025 I, Josiah Baker was invited by Bethel Camp, a church camp in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, to be an intern. After arriving one of the requirements was a blog, so I aptly named Baker at Bethel.
Where is Guinea Bissau
Guinea Bissau is a small semi-presidential representative democratic republic located on the north western coast Africa. It shares a northern boarder with Senegal and a southern boarder with Guinea Conakry. Most known for its cashew production and beautiful islands.
How long will you I stay?
I had made a set plan, arrive beginning of January 2026 leave May 2026. Simple. Then after coming here I began to feel called for longer so I decided to still come back, now in June, then returning in November for a year or so. How long will I be here, my heart will always be here but only God knows how long I will stay.
What are you doing there?
I am working alongside the local church in the capital of Bissau. I originally came with the hope to start a coffee shop. After some on the ground market research I realized it wasn’t going to work. Now we are working on getting a taxi driven by a church member on the road, where the funds can be invested into the mission, paving the way for future dreams
